Ioannis Karras

He was born in Athens in 1951.

He was registered as a rowing athlete in the Nautical Club of Palaio Faliro in 1964.

In 1969 he transferred to the Hellenic Nautical Club of Greek-Egyptians.

In 1983 he was elected member of the Executive Board of the above mentioned club until 1988 while he quit the sport activities.

In October 1988, after taking exams he became a referee and from 1991 until 2000 he was being elected every two years to the position of the president of the Refereeing Commission.

In 1990 he was elected alternative member of the Hellenic Rowing Federation.

In 1996 he was elected regular member of the Executive Board of the Hellenic Rowing Federation while 15 months later he became Secretary General until October 2004.

From 2004 he is President of the Hellenic Rowing Federation.

Since 2004 he is a member of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, 2006-2008 Chairman of the Environment Commission, 2004 member of the Olympic Preparation Commission and member of the Executive Committee since 2009.  From 2013 to 2016 was the Chairman of the Torch Relay Commission. 

Today he is Chairman of the Olympic Preparation Commission.
