Spyros Capralos

Spyros Capralos was born in 1955. He studied Economics at the University of Athens and earned his MBA from the University of INSEAD in France. He competed in the Moscow 1980 and the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games, as a member of the national water polo team. He was a champion in swimming in the 1969-1975 period. Ηe is the President of HOC since February 2009, Member of the Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees and he is also the Chairman of the EOC Olympic Culture and Education Commission. He was also member of the Hellenic Olympic Committee Plenary Session from 1992 until 1996 and was the Chef de Mission of the Hellenic delegation at the Atlanta Olympic Games. He also served as an Executive Director at the Athens 2004 Bid Committee and Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the “Athens 2004” Organizing Committee.

In March 2004, Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis named him Secretary General of the Olympic Games at the Ministry of Culture. During the Olympic Games, he was appointed City Manager. In June 2008, he was elected Chairman of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges, while in October 2004, he was appointed Chairman of the Athens Stock Exchange. In October 2010 he resigned from both of his duties. In February 2010, Mr. Spyros Capralos has been appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of the shipping company «Star Bulk Carriers». Ηe is also the President of the group EUROCLINIC, a member of the Global Finance. Between 1990 and 2000, he served as Deputy Governor (Executive) of the National Bank of Greece, Chairman of the ETEVA Bank, Chairman of the Insurance Company Astir, Managing Director of EPIRUS Co, Managing Director of EFG Balkan Investments and Managing Director of the Bank of Athens after a ten year successful career as Vice-President of the Bankers Trust Company (Paris, New York, Athens, Milan, London). He speaks fluently English, French and Italian.
