Bronze medal, April 10, 1896, Stefanos Christopoulos Cat. Heavyweights. Athens 1896
Stefanos Christopoulos from Patras fought a total of two fights to reach the third place in the ranking. First he met the Hungarian M. Tapavicza and their duel moved the Greek fans. For a moment it looked like the victory would fall to the Hungarian wrestler, but in the end the match ended in a draw. Tapavicza did not want to continue in the next fight as he was visibly exhausted, so Christopoulos faced the Greek Giorgos Tsitas for a place in the final. He lost the race in the detail and ended up in 3rd place. The final ranking: Schumann (Germany) Tsitas (Greece) Christopoulos (Greece)
